We’ve had an unusually warm couple of days, with rain, so it was time to get a few things done around the garden. I dead-headed he geraniums and zinnias, which, by the way, are gorgeous right now, and trimmed the roses back to about 3/4, since several of them were getting “leggy.” The new rye grass gave me energy. It is so green and luscious and soft.
The tomatoes are all gone, so I pulled up the plants, put away the stakes, raked the soil, and then sprinkle rye seed over that area.
I checked the fall greens for bugs, and found a very large worm devouring my collards. He lived a short life, but long enough to eat one complete large leaf. Arghhh!
The gardenias have finally stopped their fall blooming, so I trimmed them back to about 5 feet. One year I cut them back too far, and I didn’t have any gardenia blooms to bring inside and breathe. They smell divine. So I am cautious about trimming the gardenias now.
These tidying chores took about an hour.
